week 8 reflection

Kids have a profound impact on adult lives. Whether they are planned or not life will never be the same once a couple has children. Children are a huge commitment not only finically but physically and emotionally too. Having these bundles of joy too early can negatively impact a relationship and can often bring out the worst in people. As a parent there becomes an evident struggle to balance time for kids, work and their spouse. Their spouse soon becomes their last priority because the other two become ultimately more important. It is often hard for parents to spend good quality time together being intimate without being interrupted by one of their offspring. Often this creates almost a space between husband and wife. However, having kids can also bring a couple closer together.

Marriage and parenting as we know is a team effort. Parenting by being a team effort can bring two parents closer together when faced with life's many challenges. Parents are almost "forced" into cooperation. In the event of lack of involvement is where problems begin to arise and quirks about your partner that you thought were once cute have now become annoyances. These factors all contribute to thoughts of divorce, which in this day and age is one of the first options, unfortunately, that people consider when things are not working out. The divorce rate is a staggering 50%. This is an unfortunate statistic and one that has negatively impacted Americas youth.

However, there is hope still for marriages interesting statistic states that the divorce rate among couples who pray together is less than 1% or 1 in 1156. This statistic suggests that spiritual connections are far stronger physical connection. The deeper you and your spouse are connected the stronger your bond.

  1. I enjoyed your comment about families who pray together are less likely to get divorced. I am finding as I enter into my early 30's having a foundation built on faith is very important. Thanks for pointing out that stat!!!!

  2. Makes total sense to me that couples that bond on a spiritual level experience a deeper level of connection. I believe a spiritual foundation is fundamental to our stability as human beings and our relationships as well.
